Some women made waves in the music industry in the 80s and 90s. Most of these women are still remembered by some individuals who grew up in the 80s and 90s.

 

However, I will be sharing with you some of the women who dominated the Nigerian music industry in the 80s and 90s;

• Theodora Ifudu is a famous Nigerian musician who reigned in the 80s and early 90s. Her famous song titled “The Way We Are” trended in the music industry in the 80s. Ifudu also made waves in other sectors of the entertainment industry including the movie industry.

 

 Stella Monye is a famous Nigerian legendary musician whose songs made waves in the 80s. Her hit song, “Oko Mi Ye” brought her into the limelight in the music world.

 

She was among the famous legendary musicians like Late Christy Essien Igbokwe, Shina Peters, Otis Wiliki, and others that were invited to Abuja to hand over the FIFA Junior Football Championship theme song to the then President, Gen Abdulsalam Abubarkar.

 

• Multi-talented Nigerian musician, Theresa Onuorah won the heart of many music lovers with her Egedege dance popularly known as “Egwu Egedege.”

 

Her skill of singing highlife songs got her several awards and recognition. The highlife star surprised her fans when she appeared in the hit song released by Larry Gaga titled “Egedege”, where she was featured alongside Phyno and Flavour.

 

• Taiwo and Kehinde Lijadu popularly known as Lijadu sisters were a Nigerian music duo who reigned in the 70s and 80s.

Their songs earned them fame in both local and international music industry as they performed in several music concerts that was held in different countries of the world. They are still remembered for the success they achieved in the music industry.

 

• Oby Onyioha ventured into the music industry in 1981 when she dropped her album titled “I Want To Feel Your Love.” The album was named after her single, which earned her success in the Nigerian music industry in the ’80s.

 

Obey is still alive and most of her songs are still played in several big cities in the country.

 

• Another woman who dominated the Nigerian music scene in the 80s and 90s is Christy Igbokwe.

Despite being a native of Akwa Ibom, Christy is known for singing in Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Efik, Ibibio, and English. Her hit songs like Tete Nula, Ife, Hear the Call, Seun Rere and Give me a Chance made waves in the 80s and 90s.

• Evi- Edna Ogoli is a Nigerian reggae artist from Delta State. She is currently regarded as one of the most successful female Nigerian musicians in the 80s. One of her songs that reigned in the industry then is “Happy Birthday”.

 

 

• Veno Marioghae also trended in the musician industry with her hit song “Nigeria Go Better”. The song is still played by many music lovers.

 

• Onyeka Onwenu who made waves in the ’80s and ’90s is still active in the entertainment industry as she still features in movies and other sectors of the entertainment industry.
