3 American Politicians That Are Of Nigerian Descent

1. John O. Agwunobi

Some Nigerians are lucky and hard working enough to breakthrough into the United States politics. One of them is John O. Agwunobi. He is a American former public health official, pediatrician. He is currently an American politician and the current chief executive officer and executive chairman of Herbalife Nutrition.

He served as assistant secretary for health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and was Florida’s secretary of health and state health officer from 2000 to 2005. He was born in Dundee, Scotland to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent. He migrated to US in the later years of his career when he became active in political activities.

2. Emmanuel Onunwa

Another American politician who is from the Eastern part of Nigeria Emmanuel Onunwor. He is a American politician who served as the mayor of East Cleveland, Ohio.

He was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. In the State, he attended primary and secondary schools. On 1st January 1998, after he was sworn he became the first African-born Black mayor in the United States.

3. Samuel Osili

Another United States politician of Nigerian descent is Samuel Osili. He is a Democratic politician from Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was born in Lagos, Nigeria, to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent and an American mother. He migrated to United States during the civil war and grew up as a Republican but became a Democrat in the 1990s.
