7 Nigerian Players That Choose To Play For England

Nigeria is a great country that is endowed with many talented footballers. Over the years, a lot of Nigerian footballers have rose to stardom and are been recognized globally. There are many players who were born abroad by Nigerian parents. Although, some will choose to pledge loyalty to their parent’s country while others will decide to play for the country in which they were born and brought up.

In this article, we shall be discussing about seven different England players that are actually from Nigeria.

1) Folarin Balogun;

His full name is Folarin Jerry Balogun. He plays as a striker for Middlesbrough and he has represented the English national youth team. Folarin was born in the New York (USA) to Yoruba parents from Nigeria.

He played in the 2018 UEFA European under 17 championship. He has also played and netted for the England under 18 national team in a tournament that took place in Dubai three years ago.

2) Tammy Abraham;

Kevin Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham, popularly known as Tammy Abraham, is an English striker who had played for Chelsea Football Club in London. Currently, he is playing for AS Roma in the Italia Serie A. Tammy Abraham made his first appearance in a competitive game for the three lions against Czech Republic in 2020.

Tammy Abraham, whose origin is Nigeria netted his first goal for England in a winning game against Montenegro for the 2020 UEFA Euro qualifying match.

3) Bukayo Saka;

Saka is an English creative attacker who plays for Arsenal in the English Premier League. He was born in Ealing, English.

Saka netted his first goal for English national team against Austria. He started in England’s third group stage game against Czech Republic in the Euro 2020. In that particular match, Bukayo Saka performed excellently that he was named the man of the match.

Bukayo Saka, a Nigerian of Yoruba tribe played as a substitute in the final of Euro 2020 against Italy.

4) Sheyi Ojo ;

Oluwaseyi Babajide Ojo, simply known as Sheyi Ojo, is an English professional footballer who plays for Millwall as a winger. Seyi was born in Hemel Hempstead in England to Nigerian parents. He has represented England from Under 16 up to under 21 level.

Seyi Ojo played for the English Under-20 team in the FIFA under-20 World Cup in 2017.

5) Fikayo Tomori;

Fikayo was born by Nigerian parents in Calgary, Canada. Currently, he plays as a centre back for Ac Milan in Italy. Fikayo Tomori decided to play for England amidst the interest shown by Nigeria and Canada.

He played his international debut against Kosovo in the 2020 UEFA Euro qualifying game.

6) Eberechi Oluchi Eze;

Eberechi Eze was born in Greenwich, England to Nigerian parents. He plays as an attacking midfielder for Crystal Palace in the English Premier League.
