The month of February came with some losses that shook the Nigerian movie industry popularly known as Nollywood.
Some popular actors who once graced the screen passed away in the month of February.
Death is inevitable, and no matter how much we love these entertainers, we cannot question God when their time on earth is up.
Below are 4 popular Nollywood actors who passed away last month (February)
1. Natty
Veteran Nigerian actor, Romanus Amuta, died on the 9th of February. Romanus Amuta, who is popularly known as ‘Natty’, got the nickname after playing a character named ‘Natty’ in the Nollywood movie ‘The Masquerade’.
His death was confirmed by his eldest son, Chukwuma Amuta, who disclosed that his father had died after battling a protracted ailment.
He further described Natty as a father who is caring and will always do his best to raise his children.
In 2009, Natty suffered a stroke which led to a setback in his career. Rumors came up then that he was dead, but his family debunked the claim in 2014, saying he truly had a stroke, but at that moment he was clinically stable.
2. Tafa Oloyede
Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor, John Adewumi, who is popularly known as Tafa Oloyede also passed away in February at the age of 69.
Tafa Oloyed became famous for featuring in the movie ‘Kootu Ashipa’, which used to be shown in the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan in the 80s.
The actor reportedly showed no sign of ill health when he attended the general meeting of the Bigscreen Entertainment in Ibadan on the 16th of January. He also seemed hale and hearty when he appeared on OSBC TV.
His death was announced by the general secretary of TAMPAN. He was said to have died at his residence in Oshogbo, Osun State.
3. Lari Williams
Lari Williams, who is a popular Nollywood veteran actor, passed away on Sunday, 27th February 2022.
He was not just an actor during his lifetime, he was also a poet and a playwright and a teacher.
Lari Williams was the first president of Actors Guide Nigeria (AGN). His career spanned over 5 decades.
While mourning the actor, The AGN expressed how sad they felt about the loss of the actor who was their first national president.
Other Nollywood actors also took to their social media to express their grief over the loss.
4. Afolashade Oluweri
Nollywood actress, Afolashade Oluweri passed away on the 28th of February. Queen Afolashade Oluweri’s death was announced by Saidi Balogun, who is a popular Nollywood actor, filmmaker and the CEO of Saidi Balogun Productions.
Saidi Balogun took to social media to express his grief. Some other Nollywood actors have also expressed how bitter they are about the death of the actress.
