Ademola Adeleke is an uncle to popular Nigerian music star, Davido. He was born to a Muslim father named Late Chief Raji Ayoola Adeleke and a devout Igbo Christian mother, Nnena Esther Adeleke. It’s as if politics runs in the blood of the Adelekes, as his late father, Raji Ayoola Adeleke was a politician and a second republic Senator and political leader of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). In addition, Ademola Adeleke’s father was the Balogun of Ede land in Osun State while he was alive.
Ademola Adeleke’s rise to prominence in politics was after the demise of his brother Isiaka Adeleke April 2017 who was the senator representing the Osun-West district. Soon after the death of Isiaka Adeleke, Ademola Adeleke decided to run for the senatorial position, which he successfully won.

From 1985–to 1989, he worked as a service contractor at Quicksilver Courier Company in Atlanta, Georgia, US. After this, he worked as the vice president of Origin International LLC, Atlanta, Georgia, US, a flavours and fragrance manufacturing company from 1990 to 1994. After a period of time, Ademola Adeleke joined Pacific Holdings Limited, his brother’s company where he worked from 2001 to 2016, as the group’s Executive Director.

Ademola Adeleke’s journey in politics began in 2001. He was not really known in the political space until the death of his brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke who died in April 2017. He was a member of the All Progressive Party (APC); until April 2017 when he defected to the People’s Democratic party to run for the Senator’s position, which his brother left vacant. As luck would have it, Ademola Adeleke won the election and served as the senator of the Osun-West district until June 2019.
On 23 July 2018, Ademola emerged as the governorship candidate of PDP in Osun State. Davido also took to his Instagram page to congratulate his uncle on his selection as governorship candidate after winning the primaries. The result of the governorship election which took place on the 22nd of September, 2018 against contenders like Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of APC and Iyiola Omisore of SDP was declared inconclusive by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC). A rerun of the election which was held on the 27th of September, 2018 caused Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of APC to emerge as the winner.
However, this result was heavily contested by Ademola Adeleke as false and a ‘coup’. Sadly, a verdict from the Supreme Court in July 2019 reviewed the election; and declared Gboyega Oyetola of APC as the due winner of the governorship election.
