Over the years, there have been various foreign artistes who have had to infuse the Nigerian languages in a song. This is usually because they got featured by Nigerian artistes. 

It’s a thing of joy for every Nigerian to see that the Nigerian languages are becoming global. All thanks to the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Below are 3 times big foreign artistes have had to use Nigerian languages in a song.

1) P-Square ft. Akon & May D

Music duo, P-Square, featured popular American-Senegalese singer, Akon, in the remix of their song “Chop My Money”. This song was released in 2011, and it appeared in their 5th studio album “The Invasion”.

Akon, who is a well-known international artiste, had to use Nigeria’s pidgin language when he sang the chorus of the song.

He sang the part which says “Chop my money” and “I get am plenty”.

“Chop my money” is a statement in the Nigerian pidgin language which means “spend my money”.

2) Fireboy ft Ed Sheeran

Popular Nigerian artiste, Fireboy, made a remix to his hit song “Peru”. He featured a popular English artiste, Ed Sheeran, who is a multiple Grammy Awards winner. The highly anticipated track got released on the 24th of December, 2021.

Ed Sheeran wowed a lot of listeners with the way he used the Yoruba language and the Nigerian pidgin language in the song.

He sang the part of the hook which says “Omoge no b so”. Omoge is a Yoruba word which means “pretty lady”.

3) Davido ft Chris Brown

Davido featured popular American singer, Chris Brown, in his song “Blow My Mind”. The song which was released in 2019 appeared in Davido’s A Good Time album.

It featured American singer, Chris Brown, who sang a verse in the song and also the chorus which was done with the Nigerian pidgin English.

Chris Brown said “Girl you just dey blow my mind”. This is telling the girl that she is blowing up his mind.
