1. Liverpool 9 – 0 Bournemouth
Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, recording the joint-biggest win in Premier League history. Everyone was surprised by the Red’s start to the campaign and there was a feeling that Saturday surely had to be there day.
All the criticisms of Klopp’s side in their opening three games – the sloppy starts, the lack of midfield aggression and creativity, the inability of their full-backs to penetrate defensive blocks and the lack of a clean sheet – were dismantled in a scintillating first half when they earned a standing ovation from spectators.
2. Middlesbrough 8 – 1 Manchester City
It was May 11, 2008, the final day of the 2007/08 season, and Manchester City were walloped 8-1 by Middlesbrough. Not a single City player who played in that game remains at the club today, with unused substitute Joe Hart becoming No.1 goalkeeper and winning two Premier League titles before being unfancied by Pep Guardiola upon his arrival in 2016.
3. Manchester City 6 – 0 Chelsea
Chelsea suffered their heaviest defeat in 28 years when they were beaten 6-0 by Manchester City in 2019. It was the worst result for the Blues in any competition since their 7-0 Premier League loss to Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest in April 1991 at the City Ground. The Blues were torn apart at the Etihad Stadium, as a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero, a brace from Raheem Sterling and a sweet strike from Ilkay Gundogan tore into the Blues who found themselves 4-0 down inside 25 minutes.
4. Southampton 0 – 9 Leicester City
This game is still fresh in Memory of many people, but definitely not for the saints. The Foxes absolutely pummeled the Saints in that Premier League fixture under an ironic heavy showers of rain.
A Humiliating defeat that saw the Foxes rain showers of goals in the Saint Mary stadium. Goals by Jamie Vardy and his merciless band of goalscorers ensured the total embarrassment of Southampton players and the club.
5. Manchester United 8 – 2 Arsenal
This will remain long in memory of Premier League fans. A tattered and rag-tag Arsenal team lost to the red Devils in a humiliating fashion. And why would the Gunners not lose, when the Defence had players like Carl Jenkinson, Djourou and Armand Traore.
A truly embarrassing match that also reek of humiliation.
