UNILAG Finally Speak on their Student Chidinma Ojukwu Killing SuperTV CEO Usifo Ataga
THE University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has reacted to the crime committed by one of its students, Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu, a 300-level Mass Communication who confessed to stabbing her lover, Super TV CEO, Mr Usifo Ataga, to death some days earlier in the Lekki area of Lagos.
UNILAG’s Deputy ViceChancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Oluwole Familoni, had a chat with Saturday Tribune on Friday where he posited that although the university is aware of the news, it cannot take any instant decision against the student.
According to him, the university had not yet received any official report from the appropriate quarters, concerning the murder charge.
In his words: “So, to us in UNILAG, it is very unfortunate that the girl is not a good ambassador of our university. But then, we can’t disown her because of her alleged action which the school totally condemns,”
“So, if the university will do anything on the matter, particularly now, it will require official communication from appropriate authorities, particularly the police, to the university,”
“So, if they write us that our student has committed a criminal offence of any type, definitely, the law will take its course and that invariably means she will not be able to qualify to remain as our student.
“But as I have said, that could only be when the matter is officially communicated to us,” he added.
Meanwhile, The Lagos State Police Command also has in its custody the father of Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu, the 21-year-old UNILAG student who admitted to taking the life of Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga.
According to the PUNCH, a police source who didn’t want his identity revealed said the father of the 300 level student pursuing Mass Communication was also taken into custody for preventing the arrest of his daughter viciously. He added that the father didn’t accept that his daughter was guilty of the crime she was accused of until she confessed on Thursday hence calling for his detention at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba.
“She (Chidinma) stays with her dad. Her dad and mom don’t live together. Her father was arrested on Wednesday because he resisted his daughter’s arrest. He never believed that his daughter committed any crime until Thursday. He is at Panti as we speak, but he was not paraded today (Thursday),” the source said
