1. Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon Ufficiale is an Italian professional football goalkeeper currently playing for Parma.

Considered as one of the best Goalkeepers in Champion league history, Buffon is known for his speed, prowess, and anticipation when coming off his line in one on one situations, as well as his confidence, goalkeeping technique, reactions, and ability to get to ground quickly to collect, parry, or even challenge for the ball with his feet. He was the first goalkeeper to win the Serie A Footballer of the Year award, and was named Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year a record twelve times. After reaching the 2015 and 2017 UEFA Champions League finals, he was named to the Champions League Squad of the Season on both occasions, and won the inaugural The Best FIFA Goalkeeper award in the latter year.

2. Marc-André ter Stegen

Marc-André ter Stegen is a German professional soccer player presently playing as a goalkeeper for the Spanish side, Barcelona, and the national team of Germany.

Widely regarded as one of the best Champion League goalkeepers of all time, Stegen is known for his handling, aerial ability, command of the area on high balls, reflexes, passing, and ball-playing ability. Seven years ago, he led Barcelona to the Champion League Final against Juventus. He won the “Best Save” award for his spectacular “goal-line” save against Bayern Munich, in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.

3. Oliver Kahn

Oliver Rolf Kahn is a German football executive and retired professional soccer player who played as a goalkeeper for Bayern Munich and the national team of Germany.

Considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the history of Champion league, Kahn is widely renowned for his agility, reflexes, distribution, command of his area, and shot-stopping abilities, and composure. In 1999, during his playing career with Bayern Munich, his club reached the Champions League Final, facing Manchester United at Camp Nou. The same year, he was named World Goalkeeper of the Year by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics. In 2001, he was awarded man of the match when he was member of the Bayern Munich squad that played the Champions League title against Valencia. He played an integral role in the penalty shoot-out held after the teams remained equalized after extra time, making three saves. He also won the UEFA Fair Play Award for this match, after he walked up to a disappointed Santiago Cañizares, the opposition goalkeeper, after the penalty shoot-out and attempted to comfort him. 

4. Víctor Valdé

Víctor Valdés Arribas is a Spanish football coach and former professional player who played as a goalkeeper for the La Liga club, Barcelona, and the national team of Spain.

Regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the history of Champion league, Valdés is renowned for his vision, footwork, distribution, control and skill with the ball at his feet, which enabled him to play the ball out on the ground or launch an attack from the back. During his goalkeeping career, he won three Champion Leagues. He played an integral role in Barça’s 2006 UEFA Champions League winning campaign and in the final against Arsenal, he denied Thierry Henry twice from point-blank range to help his side win at the Stade de France. His efforts saw him singled out for praise from Barcelona manager at that time. Thirteen years ago, Barcelona beat Manchester United in the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. In the game, Valdés made two saves from attempts by Cristiano Ronaldo in both halves. In the 2013 Champions League match against Bayern Munich at Camp Nou, Valdés made his 100th appearance in the competition, becoming the 17th player to do so.

5. Dida

Nélson de Jesus Silva, simply known simply as Dida, is a Brazilian retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper for AC Milan and the national team of Brazil.

Regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Champion League history, Dida is known for his intelligence, ability to read the game, and his speed and bravery when coming off his line to claim the ball on the ground in one on one situations, and also excelled at anticipating opponents outside his area who had beaten the offside trap. He kept thirty five clean-sheets in the UCL during his successful career. He won the Champions League twice with AC Milan in 2003 and 2007 respectively. In both finals, he saved crucial penalties to guide his side to the title. Dida is also the first goalkeeper to assist a goal in the Champions League.
