Saying ‘goodbyes’ to the people we love, is actually one of the hardest things to do on the planet. As it often comes with a huge cloud of emotions.

This can be said of most footballers during their last game for their club sides. As they are often treated to an emotional farewell by fans and teammates.

 

Some players are sometimes left in tears, while others are filled with joy and laughter. But regardless, they will have to move on at the end of the day.

The just concluded 2021-2022 football campaign also witnessed some emotional moments. As a couple of top football stars played their very last game for some of their respective club sides.

 

Players such as Nemanja Matic, Antonio Rudiger, Niklas Sule and Isco amongst others, are some high profile stars who confirmed their departures from their clubs.

However, this article will be taking a look some players who were treated to emotional farewells during the end of the 2021-2022 football season with their clubs.

1. Marcelo Viera (Real Madrid)

The emotions was indeed high, as veteran Brazilian defender Marcelo played his very last game for Spanish giants Real Madrid, during the UEFA Champions League final against Liverpool.

 

The Real Madrid captain, led his team to win a record breaking 14 UCL titles, after they beat Jurgen Klopp’s team by 1-0 in France.

After the game, Marcelo was given heroic send off by his teammates. As it was announced that the left-back will be calling it quit at Real Madrid. Spending 15 good years at the club.

2. Divoc Origi (Liverpool)

Another star player who was handed an emotional farewell during the conclusion of the 2021-2022 football campaign was Liverpool striker Origi.

The Belgian star announced that he will be leaving the Reds, after eight memorable years at the Anfield based club.

While Origi wasn’t really a regular player in the Liverpool team, his impact was however felt coming off the bench in games for Jurgen Klopp’s team. As he is considered to be one of the greatest ‘super subs’ in the clubs history.

The striker played a combined total of 175 games for the Reds, scoring 41 goals and providing 14 assists.

3. Fernandinho (Manchester City)

The veteran Brazilian defender decided to call it quit with Manchester City after 2021-2022 football campaign and was treated to an emotional send off.

Fernandinho spent a total of nine solid years at the Eithad stadium. After joining from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2013.

The Brazilian went on to achieve a legendary status at Manchester City after winning a combined 14 trophies at the club. Of which includes, five Premier League titles, six EFL cups, among others.

4. Paulo Dybala (Juventus)

The Argentine forward was in tears during his last game for Italian giants Juventus. After spending a total of seven seasons in Turin. 

Dybala was also handed an emotional farewell from his teammates, who did bid their star player goodbye.

The striker failed to renew his deal with Juventus and thus confirmed that he will be leaving the Old Ladies, on a free transfer alongside teammate Chiellini.

5. Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus)

Just like Dybala, Italian defender Chiellini also announced that he will be calling it quit with Juventus after the just concluded football campaign. 

The veteran centre-back is regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time and spent a huge part of his career with Juventus, playing a combined total of 18 solid seasons with the club.

 

Chiellini who was a fans favorite and was well respected by his teammates was given a heroic send off during his last game.
